Course Overview

Gain Critical Insights into Additive Manufacturing's Capabilities

How will additive manufacturing (AM) change the Defense industry landscape? How can its capabilities be harnessed for your strategic advantage?

This unique 4-day course delivers the practical insights and experiences required to make informed, high-impact decisions about the adoption and integration of AM technologies within Defense contexts.

Additive Manufacturing for Military – Extended Defense Applications is an expanded and immersive course designed to equip military and defense professionals with a comprehensive understanding of cutting-edge AM technologies and their real-world implications. Building on the proven foundation of EIT’s 3-day program, this extended version explores the same core principles in greater depth while introducing new modules focused on AM in Armors and AM in Energetics, as well as a facilitated Strategic Opportunities Roundtable designed to translate technical knowledge into actionable organizational advantage.

Participants will gain critical design and implementation insights specific to military needs. These will range from economic impact and supply chain integration to material performance and field maintainability. Through detailed comparisons of additive and conventional manufacturing, the course develops an informed appreciation of where AM offers transformative potential and where limitations remain.

Hands-on workshops reinforce theory through practical engagement using EIT’s on-site Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) printers. Attendees will print actual AM parts and experience firsthand the end-to-end AM process including design considerations, support structures, reverse engineering, and live printing activities, bridging conceptual understanding with practical execution.

New content in this version includes an exploration of:

  • AM and Armors — design priorities, suitable AM technologies, material challenges, testing, and future directions,
  • AM and Energetics — the emerging field of AM for energetic materials, associated risks, validation, and development pathways,
  • AM Strategic Opportunities Roundtable — a facilitated session translating technical potential into strategic advantage for defense organizations.

Each module focuses on balancing information delivery with active learning activities to ensure understanding and engagement.

Participants receive a full-color printed training folder, ensuring continued learning and practical application of course concepts.
