Institute Director Mark Eggler’s Story
Because in Defense, Education & Training Isn't Academic - It's Mission Critical
I am incredibly passionate about EIT and our purpose. With decades of hands-on experience working on the most advanced military technology in Australia, I know firsthand the importance of having a specialist technical knowledge base and the ability to think laterally under pressure. The experiences and unique learnings I was exposed to created an environment of continual success in my life, one I am passionate to pass on through the EIT.
The EIT provides cutting-edge, defense contextualized education and training that technical professionals of global organizations, both private and public, can rely on when mission critical knowledge and skills are needed most. Whether it's in high-pressure situations or when tackling difficult technical problems, we teach not only the knowledge but also the practical skills needed to perform at the highest level. We've created the best tertiary-level technical courses available that draw upon the latest methods, techniques and technology. Our mission is to help professionals needing to rapidly uplift their technical knowledge and skills, so they can be better prepared for whatever challenges may come their way.
Developing Fundamental Principles For Success In Business And War
I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with global technical experts from a variety of militaries and leading defense companies, including many in the USA, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the Middle East, among others. Learning from these experts wasn’t just about acquiring specific technical and management skills for a particular application, but about developing a more fundamental understanding of the principles underlying these essential skills. This allowed me to develop a greater level of expertise and experience much more quickly. These professional skills are just as essential in the world of business as they are in the preparation and conduct of military operations, where the environment is constantly changing, requiring lateral and proven approaches to complex problem-solving.
Saving Australia's Most Important Military Vehicle Project
My extensive experience and knowledge in the field of military technology came to the forefront when I was tasked with saving Australia’s most important military vehicle project – the development of the Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicle. The project was at risk of being cancelled due to poor scoping and lack of technical progress. Drawing on my experience working on a wide range of military vehicle technology projects over 20 years, I was able to quickly identify the key project management and technical problems and provide innovative solutions that worked. Through my leadership and expertise, the project was turned around and the Bushmaster vehicle is now renowned as the most important Australian military sovereign development project in recent decades, recognized globally for its operational excellence.
Creating A Leading Engineering University Course
I had always been passionate about education and the importance of transferring knowledge and technical skills. That passion led me to create a specialized course for the University of New South Wales (Canberra) on military vehicle technology, drawing upon my extensive knowledge and background. This experience was the foundation for EIT. When my son Daniel joined the team, we took the teaching to the next level, using cutting-edge contextualized learning techniques to surpass what any university had been able to deliver. Our focus is on providing defense professionals with the necessary applied technical knowledge and skills needed to excel in their chosen fields.
EIT’s Defense Contextualized Learning Approach
My passion for delivering world-class defense contextualized education and training drives me to help technical professionals rapidly uplift their knowledge and skills to perform under pressure. In the real world, things are constantly changing, and you don’t always have all the information you need. That’s why much of today’s traditional education delivered by universities falls short. But at EIT, we offer a different approach.
Our courses are designed to provide defense-contextualized, hands-on experience and to assist technical professionals think laterally, so they can draw on their knowledge, skills and experience when it really counts. We use proven education and training methodologies, cutting-edge course curricula, and globally-renowned instructors who are experts in their own right to deliver technical knowledge that can be easily absorbed and put to use when needed.
Director of Education and Training Dr. Daniel Eggler’s Story
Redefining Technical Education for Future Leaders
Education is more than just teaching: it’s about taking someone on a transformative journey, where they realize the full potential of their abilities, and witness how knowledge can shape their future. That’s the why behind what I do, and that’s the promise I bring to every class, every student, and now, to every initiative at EIT.
Education Beyond the Classroom: Real-World Impact
True education creates a powerful ripple effect, transforming careers and shaping futures. At EIT, we connect the dots between theoretical learning and practical applications, ensuring the skills we impart make an immediate impact in the workplace. Our focus is not just on teaching but also on nurturing talent, inspiring aspirations, and creating success stories in a myriad of professional fields.
Thriving Amid Adversity: Innovation in the Age of Remote Learning
The pandemic was a turning point, inspiring us at EIT to redefine our educational approach and rise to global prominence. With the world in flux, I utilized my expertise at the University of New South Wales to transform conventional teaching methods, pioneering innovative strategies for my Mechanical design courses such as live-streamed manufacturing sessions and assembly and testing by proxy events. This personalized assessment provided each student with an immersive, authentic, real-world learning experience and outcome even in a remote learning setting.
This shift was not merely reactive; it was a strategic move to enhance educational offerings, providing deeper, practical insights to participants. Because of this, I was honored with the Educational Excellence and Innovation Award in 2020 and 2021 – a testament to our commitment to delivering superior learning experiences, no matter the circumstances.
Shaping the Future of Technical Education at EIT
With a vision to shape the future of education, I then stepped into the role of Director of Education and Training at EIT. Harnessing my extensive experience, we’ve redefined the impact of technical education, integrating innovative software and pioneering delivery methods. At EIT, we don’t just follow educational trends: we set them.
Our commitment goes beyond teaching. We strive to empower our participants with the skills to excel in their chosen fields. As we continue to innovate, we are energized by the prospect of helping organizations achieve unprecedented productivity and success through our advanced technical education programs. Together, we are not just imparting education: we are creating a legacy of excellence and professional achievement.
